This French display cushion is covered in the most beautiful royal blue velvet. These cushions are increasingly hard to find. They are solid pieces filled with sawdust and were used variously for carrying the ring at a wedding and for the bride to display her wedding tiara after the big day. Dating from the late 1800s, they often sat underneath a glass dome to protect them ("coussin de mariee" or "globe de mariee"). The cushion is edged with metallic braid with metalled tassels to each corner.

Condition: The velvet is very faded and worn in large parts. There are tears to the top and a large tear underneath which has been patched up with blue satin and glass-head pins.

Size: 21cm x 21cm x 14cm approx.

Dimensions:

  • H: 21cm (8.27in)
  • W: 21cm (8.27in)
  • D: 14cm (5.51in)

1010 DECORATIVE is run by Mel - an incorrigible magpie with a passion for collecting and curating.  Based in mid-Wales, Mel's extensive collections have spilled out of the house, into the barns and from there onto her website.

The emphasis of 1010 DECORATIVE is on faded glamour and rustic charm, and each piece is handpicked for its aesthetic or originality. 1010 DECORATIVE focuses on items that sing as solo statement pieces and quirky collectibles that work to great effect en masse. Each item has had a previous life and carries that imprint with it into its new home. Where the provenance is known, details will happily be shared so these timeworn but treasured pieces don’t lose their back story – or their history.
