An interesting painting by English artist John R Davies, believed to be the artists who lived from 1899 to 1985. His works were exhibited variously from what I can find and some of his paintings have been sold at auction including at Bonhams. This 'forested' looking scene depicts Church goers entering a place of worship in Skutskar, Sweden as written by hand on the original label on the reverse.

A good size, the charming earthy colours against the white painted Church make it stand out well, with blue/grey tones and the muted colours of the church goers clothing make this an interesting painting to look at. Particularly like the circular window that almost seems to reflect the Cross below. Presumably a Spring scene as they are still wearing their coats, but the trees to the left have some leaves upon them, with other branches bare and an early or afternoon shadow from the sun show the trees on the pathway. Signed top left.
