A 19th century, elm mortar and pestle. Both the mortar and pestle are nicely turned and the wood has a rich patina and attractive, swirling grain. The mortar has a couple of splits, which can be seen in the images. This has occurred over the years as the wood has dried out. The pestle is in very good condition. Despite the cracking this could still be used as the cracks do not go right through.
