Norman Crosse (1871-1912) Brit: Merchant Shipping Seascape Watercolour Painting. This is a beautiful original late 19th/early 20th Century Seascape watercolour painting depicting a group of steam vessels and small barges which can be seen moored off the coast in one of the British Docks. 'Norman Crosse, George Samuel' (1871-1912)

As George Samuel Norman, he was born at London Fields, Hackney, London in 1871, son of George Parsons Norman [q.v.] later Parsons-Norman, and his wife Eleanor née Clark who married at Hackney in 1865, his sister was Pattie Eleanor Norman [q.v.]. About 1878 they moved to Lowestoft, Suffolk and in 1881, a 9-year-old, living at 2 Burton Street, Lowestoft with his parents, 39-year-old George, an artist and his 34-year-old wife Eleanor and sibling sister Pattie Eleanor 14. George had added the additional name of Crosse by the time of his marriage at Kensington, London on 11 September 1900, Winnifred Alice Bray [Norman-Crosse q.v.] and in 1901, they were living at 44 Hartington Road, Stockton-upon-Tees, Durham but by 1908 had returned to Suffolk, living at Butten Haugh, Ashfield Green, Elmswell, near Bury St Edmund's. He died at Norwich, Norfolk, where his parents and sister were living, in 1912, aged 41.

A very atmospheric work with great attention to detail, together with a very moody, British industrial feel.
