1945, Posie with Apples, Karl Enock Olsonn

BARNSTAR
1945, Swedish still life by Karl Enock Olsonn (1889-1958)

Deliciously reminiscent of Vanessa Bell's paintings at Charleston this sweetheart ticks all our decorators' boxes. Loosely painted with no restraint and full of joie de vivre a flowered jug is giggling with pink and butter poppies and white marguerites. Four stoic apples, in wonderful salmon pink and emerald, stand like sentries, keeping order.

If your heart belongs to Bloomsbury this painting is for you.

About the Artist

Karl Enock Waldemar Ohlsson, born May 15, 1889 in Malmö, died March 20, 1958 in Malmö, was a Swedish painter and artist.

Ohlsson studied at the Technical School in Malmö and during several study trips in 1904-1908 to Hamburg, England, France and Cairo. He made his debut in a collection exhibition in 1915 and exhibited separately the first time in 1917.

He belonged to the artist group Aura and participated in the group's exhibitions from 1928. He participated almost every year in the Malmö exhibitions of Skåne since 1915 and he also participated in collections exhibitions in Copenhagen, Stockholm and Gothenburg.

His art consists of still life, portraits, figurative motifs and landscapes, often from the outskirts of cities with factories and harbour views. In 1939 he published the book Karl Enock Ohlsson. Ohlsson is represented at Malmö Museum, Helsingborg Museum, Tomelilla Museum and at Landskrona Museum.
