1960's Russian Painting, 'Fishing Nets Drying'

1960's, Russian, oil painting on board by Soviet artist Nina Volkova (1917-1993). Grey and salmon pink fishing nets hang in the sunshine over a jade lawn, drying. This is a very fine example of Russian art, note the crisp light as is falls across the grass, the immediacy of the passionate impressionist strokes. Scroll down to read about the artist.

Nina Pavlovna Volkova was born on January 28, 1917 in the vellage Yuber of the Kirov region in Russia.
In 1936 she graduated from the Dnepropetrovsk Art College.
In 1946 she graduated from the Kiev Art Institute, where her teachers were K.Eleva, K.Trohimenko, M.Sharonov.
Volkova Nina had been a participant of the regional art exhibitions since 1947, national and international exhibitions since 1948.
She was a Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.
She worked in the field of easel painting. She was a master of genre painting, still life and landscape.
Artworks by Volkova are represented in museums, galleries and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.

Trained in graphic design and illustration, Kitty worked for publisher Macmillan, as a senior designer and is responsible for the design of the classic children's book 'The Gruffalo'.  Kitty has worked for many years as a vintage and food stylist, she has a keen eye for stylish mid-century decorative pieces.  She has written and styled 5 books including the best selling Sweets Made Simple, the companion book to the couple's BBC TV show of the same name.

The couple argue incessantly through Kitty is wise enough to know that one should let your man think he wears the trousers.
