Headmasters Desk Chair Mid Century by James Leonard for Esavian C1950

A rare piece of 1950s education furniture – The Masters Chair designed by James Leonard for Esavian – and we have a desk to match!

“Immediately after the war James Leonard persuaded his boss at the ESA, an eccentric character called Jonny Appleton, to take a trip to Scandinavia in his Bentley. Through this journey James Leonard was able to facilitate the epiphany necessary to convince Appleton that modern Scandinavian design was just what the company needed. The trip resulted in James Leonard’s radical designs for the new aluminium range.

A great looking design in pressed aluminium and surviving in good order. We have day to day wear to the frames but no cracks or repairs. The green vinyl seat does have a 1cm hole but is perfectly usable, our upholsterer would be happy to replace the seat for £65 plus materials. We would assume that someone painted the arms black like people did in the old days! and the wood is peeping though.

A fab looking desk chair - we have the matching desk!

Dimensions - Overall: Height 78cm x Width 53.5cm x Depth 48cm
Dimensions - Specifically the Seat: Height 46cm x width 45-40cm (Front-Rear) x Depth 38cm

Billy Hunt is an independent partnership based in a wonderful Victorian Farming Buiding once used to stable Dray Horses for Bass Brewery and with the assistance of technology, enjoys serving customers nationally and internationally. The collaboration of successful Interior Designer Martina Reitbauer and Ardent Gatherer Wayne Lawless brings to you an exciting and ever evolving selection of items for your home which do not have the constraints of a particular era, no onus on any particular style or a brand agenda to respect.

We choose to source across the UK believing that the British Isles offers a splendid mix of fine quality, true eccentricity, creative design and exceptional craftsmanship which very few can equal.

We take pleasure in gathering pieces from country houses, time-worn factories and auctions travelling extensively to seek out the appealing. You will notice when viewing our collection, we are not afraid to evolve furniture, recognise the need to modernise but are also content to leave “as found” aiming to create a piece or pieces that are beautiful, distinctive and a delight to live with.

Our wish is to show you some wonderful items that you would love to own and offer a service which is personal, professional, considerate and a pleasurable experience. You are able to view our stock in person by appointment, just contact us to arrange a convenient time here.
