Early 1950s British Desk Chair

BILLY HUNT

Early 1950s British Desk Chair Bowman Bros Camden

A great looking desk armchair that was retailed by Bowman Bros of Camden and bearing the 2 Cheese stamp...

The 2 Cheese Stamp - CC41 Utility logo was a British Board of trade requirement that appeared on footwear, utility furniture and textiles for just over ten years from 1941. Per a 1941 Associated Press article, CC41 meant "Controlled Commodity" and designated that the item met the government's austerity regulations...
The chair’s design is modest with a nice flare to the rear legs and angle to the arms. We have reupholstered the back and seat with a grained black vinyl and its ready to go. Expect day to day marks and wear to the frame, the vinyl is new of course!

A great little British chair.

Dimensions – Overall: Height 77cm x Width 52.5cm x Depth 49.5cm
Dimensions – Specifically the Seat: Height 43cm x Depth 45-40cm (front to rear) x depth 38cm

Billy Hunt is an independent partnership based in a wonderful Victorian Farming Buiding once used to stable Dray Horses for Bass Brewery and with the assistance of technology, enjoys serving customers nationally and internationally. The collaboration of successful Interior Designer Martina Reitbauer and Ardent Gatherer Wayne Lawless brings to you an exciting and ever evolving selection of items for your home which do not have the constraints of a particular era, no onus on any particular style or a brand agenda to respect.

We choose to source across the UK believing that the British Isles offers a splendid mix of fine quality, true eccentricity, creative design and exceptional craftsmanship which very few can equal.

We take pleasure in gathering pieces from country houses, time-worn factories and auctions travelling extensively to seek out the appealing. You will notice when viewing our collection, we are not afraid to evolve furniture, recognise the need to modernise but are also content to leave “as found” aiming to create a piece or pieces that are beautiful, distinctive and a delight to live with.

Our wish is to show you some wonderful items that you would love to own and offer a service which is personal, professional, considerate and a pleasurable experience. You are able to view our stock in person by appointment, just contact us to arrange a convenient time here.
