World War 2 Zuckerman Helmet Lamp Shade

We have been very fortunate to have come across a good 50 or so of these original Zuckerman Helmets and thought they would make great light shades. We have had Harry, our electrician, add a suitable fitment and also a metre of twisted flex.

A little background on the helmet:

The Zuckerman helmet, officially designated the Civilian Protective Helmet was a British helmet designed for use by civil defence organisations and the general public during World War II. It was researched and designed by Solly Zuckerman, Derman Christopherson and Hugh Cairns. The helmet was manufactured by a number of companies including Austin Motor Co and Morris Motors. The Helmets were made from pressed steel. The design of the high dome was to allow the helmet to withstand impact and still protect the wearer.

Zuckerman and Cairns first started looking into a design for a helmet to aid civil defence in the middle of 1940. The aim was to provide a helmet that could deal with impact from falling and flying masonry and provide more coverage for the head and neck area.

The helmets have been lightly sealed and are all grey in colour, of differing tones and bearing in mind they were a barn find expect marks etc. All the helmets have individual wear etc but are all the same in shape and form. Remember these are not new!
