Item Description
Superbly Painted Vintage Framed Oil on Board Urchin Boy & Goat Entitled ‘Helping Himself’.
European/Mediterranean scene depicting a young urchin boy helping himself to goat’s milk! Skilfully painted using a well-chosen colour palette. Signed by the artist Peter Dewar. The painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1992.
There are references going back in history where lactating animals, particularly goats, were used to suckle abandoned infants due to wet nurses not being available. Such references go back as far as classical mythology, for example Romulus and Remus being raised by Capitoline Wolf.
