Set of Four 19th Century Ebonised Masonic Chairs with Velvet Upholstery *PRICE INCLUDES DELIVERY COST TO ENGLAND & WALES. **DELIVERY TO SCOTLAND IS AN EXTRA COST - PLEASE MESSAGE US WITH YOUR POSTCODE FOR A DELIVERY QUOTE*
What a special find!
This set of four ebonised Masonic chairs are in original as found condition with the most fabulous patina. These chairs have come from Minerva Lodge No.250 Masonic Hall in Hull. Each chair is so well designed and aesthetically pleasing to the eye and the patination and wear especially on the arms is beautiful. The original old faded black velvet upholstery all adds to the visual appeal and the history of each chair.
The hand painted shields on each of the chair backs depicts a particular Mason’s title/role/hierarchy – see below.
The Worshipful Master is the head officer of a Freemasons Masonic Lodge and is the highest honour which any lodge can appoint one of its members.
The Junior Warden is third in command within the Masonic lodge hierarchy and helps the lodge run smoothly
A Past Master has previously held the Worshipful Master title. There are two of these chairs.
The Minerva Lodge No.250 was founded in September 1782 and is the oldest surviving Masonic Lodge in the City of Kingston upon Hull and the third oldest in the Province of Yorkshire North & East Ridings.
The Masons originally met at the appropriately named 'Masons Arms' on Chapel Lane, Kingston upon Hull. In 1802 they moved to the Grade II* listed Minerva Masonic Hall which was one of the first ever purpose-built lodges in the Province.

The chairs all differ slightly in size but to give you an idea the approximate dimensions of the largest chair (Worshipful Master) are as follows:-
Height: 116cm (45.75 inches)
Width: 66cm (26 inches)
Depth: 54cm (21.5 inches)
Seat Height: 48.5cm (19 inches)
(please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like the exact dimensions of all four chairs)

These chairs are also for sale individually – please see the separate listings for more pictures and pricing.

Please see photographs as they do also form part of the description.
Although all of our antique/vintage pieces of furniture have a sense of beauty and style there may be the odd age-related mark here and there but these in no way detract from each piece's character, beauty and stylish appeal.
N.B. The accessories in the photographs are for display purposes only and are not included in the sale.
