Clock dials like this were found across France on churches and tall buildings where a clock was needed. The French, more than the English went in for public clocks. This dial is interesting because it is made of Lava Stone which was enamelled with the numbers, name and place baked in so that the dial could withstand all weathers. Many have been replaced now with modern dials and we are lucky to find the odd old ones in out travels to various markets in France. They are however few and far between. This one has its old pair of hands too.

Roger Lascelles has spent the past 35 years building a collection of vintage and antique clocks that is second to none.

He maintains a collection of over 500 clocks, ranging from antique longcase clocks to large external turret clock dials, from Bakelite mantel clocks to charming old French Bistro clocks.

Roger frequents antique markets and auction houses at home and abroad. With the help of a small team of skilled craftsmen, he enjoys restoring and reviving clocks that have seen better days to give them back their original charm and character.

He welcomes visitors by appointment to his 4,500 sq ft showroom and workshop in Wandsworth, South West London.
