A very large Persian Josheghan carpet in extremely good condition. Dating to around 1960, it was purchased by a private collector who travelled in the region and purchased many rugs from the local villages. This is a very large example at 410cm x 305cm (approx.) and is therefore rather rare and sought after. With geometric florets surrounding a central diamond medallion, framed by a striking bold border, all in reds, blues and with accents of green, white, yellow and pink. With its thick soft pile, this rug will withstand daily family life for many, many years! Iran, c.1960.

Josheghan rugs originate from the region of the same name, in north-central Iran. Famous as being one of the oldest centres of continuous weaving of wool rugs in Iran, Josheghan is one of a cluster of villages that is well known for weaving wool rugs of exceptionally high quality. It is not uncommon for a weaver to be totally dedicated to a single rug for months and sometimes years. This results in wool rugs of the highest quality, but very limited quantity.

At Cunningham White's we source decorative antiques and furniture. We are guided by great decorative value, recognising the emotion that can be gained from owning something that just looks and feels so good. We don't pin ourselves down to one particular style or period. We simply love good looking things.

Sam finds and Naomi fixes (although sometimes it's the other way round) and as a team we manage to always have a quality selection of stock in our collection.

We believe that antiques are the future. Timeless, quality pieces add so much character to any scheme and can make a house into a home. They are sustainable. They haven't been thrown away because they are made to last and they can be fixed. We do that bit for you (if it's needed). Antiques reflect our individuality and connect us to past generations. We will always try and find out the provenance of a piece and share that with our customers.

We gladly welcome visitors but please let us know when you plan to visit as we're often out. Our workshop is based in the grounds of a working rescue farm in the characterful, vibrant and independently minded community of Totnes in beautiful South Devon.
