A beautiful midcentury still life with plums, lemons, garlic and saucepan by Swedish artist, Brita Nordencreutz (1899-1982).

Nordencreutz was fortunate enough to train with two very accomplished painters during the early part of the 20th-century. She initially studied in Stockholm under Carl Wilhelmsson who was a talented painter of colourful impressionistic scenes, landscapes and portraits. And then later, she attended André Lhote’s school of painting in Paris. Lhote is recognised as an important member of the cubist movement.

With this experience at her fingertips, Nordencreutz paints with expression and a strong understanding of colour. Here she uses a high key palette to bathe the table in daylight and create a playful, impressionistic atmosphere.

The painting is signed in the lower right and housed within an appropriate frame.
