A stunning sit on and pull along hand built steam locomotive an absolute one off built with a great deal of thought and enthusiasm. With the copper banding around the smaller stack and under the side windows of the cab, the metal plates either side of the coal box which also acts as the seat, the steel angle at each end above the doorstop buffers, the heavy duty Lino attached to steel footplates, the copper banding around the front of the tank, the hook up links front and back enabling the engine to be pulled along with a rope and the four sets of Maccano or similar metal wheels and rubber tyres with their steel rod axles which would easily take the weight of a child. All this painted in olive green, pillar box red and black livery and built from timber 25mm thick. The seat has a dark green padded in perfect condition cover which lifts off to reveal a storage area for all your other toys you may need to transport. This is an engine and a half at over 36’’ long 14’’ high 12.5 wide and a good heavy weight. It has some bumps and grazes where children have ridden it into objects, fallen off and generally had a great time.

Can you imagine the face of the lucky child when they were given this as a birthday or Christmas present and with that time of year fast approaching what an opportunity for a shop window display or maybe give it to another child to love.

Tracy Thomas and her husband Simon share their home in West Sussex in the beautiful Sothdowns National Park, where they have lived for the past thirty two years and from where, since 2007 Tracy has managed her antique and vintage home and garden business, Envy of London.  They have raised two children and are now blessed with two grandchildren.

Tracy has enviable artistic ability and is one of life’s freethinkers. with her attention to detail she has the uncanny ability to fuse older pieces with the more contemporary with exciting results.

Says Tracy, “I love the offbeat pieces that demand your attention, make you smile and encourage you to pick them up or run your hands over them, you can learn so much about and from a piece just by handling it.

If pressed on my preferred style I would have to plumb for industrial. I am fascinated by old industrial trollies, banks of shelves and the like, so much history, the folk that used them and what practical use they were out to is all part of the appeal.

We take the neglected and following some TLC give them a new lease of life in someone’s kitchen or lounge what could be better”.

Simon’s support is essential in the success of Envy Of London, he is tenacious in his efforts to source the the fascinating, the unusual and sometimes bizarre.

Both Tracy and Simon are avid recyclers, they will happily use the remnants of a piece of Victorian furniture and marry it up with a mid century something turning it into furniture of their own design.
