Utagawa Hiroshige (1792-1858) is recognized as one of the greatest masters of ukiyo-e woodcuts. This composition is one of his most celebrated works, Forest at Sumida River from the Famous Views of the Eastern Capital series, showing cherry trees in blossom, riverboats, and the Azuma Shrine.
This woodcut was produced around 1905 from recarved blocks, replicating the original.
