19 Piece Longchamp Asparagus Set include 2 Servers

Longchamp French Asparagus Service with 19 Square Plates and 2 Servers

This was a rare find at a recent Brocante in our town...we were just Wowed! to find a Banquet-worthy set of this lovely classic French Asparagus Service.

I don't know what it is about the French and asparagus, but they really love this vegetable.
And as with a number of other foods, they make a ritual of serving it. Over and over one sees 'asparagus servers' in hundreds of different designs...but almost always there will be a curved bed of 'trompe l'oeil' asparagus to hold the real spears....and that is the case here.

This service is emblematic of the type but it is rare to find this particular service in such fine condition....and with 19 plates and 2 servers its unheard of! Much of the charm of this service comes from the fact that each of the plates are different with their hand painted flower decoration.

This French Majolica Asparagus server and its matching plates were made by the famous French maker Longchamp. 'Pompadour' is the pattern name and it was made in a number of variations. This pattern appears in, 'Artichauts et Asperge in Barbotine' by Maryse Bottero and is described on page 59 and 61 of that book.

The serving platters measures approx. 14 1/4 " inches long, 1 1 " inches wide. The plates measure approx. 9 1/4 inches in on each side. The servers are marked Longchamp.

PLEASE NOTE: All the pieces are in Fine vintage condition with no cracks, chips or repairs though you may notice very slight signs of the age with some light crazing of the glaze on a few of the plates and the servers...but there are no serious issues.

++Please note that we will include a 20th plate which has an edge chip but could be used++

A very lovely 'old-fashioned' and elegant service of Majolica / Barbotine...and 'So French.'

For a number of years now, we have had a business selling fine French vintage and antique linens, and a selected group of other vintage and antique items worldwide and please do let us know if you have any specific requests. We have a large stock of beautiful things and we enjoy the challenge of finding just what you are looking for.

To introduce ourselves, we are a husband and wife team, he's Irish and I'm American, who live in France in the charming and historic town in the South of France called Pezenas.

For us it is particularly special in that there is a street filled with over 20 antique shops just blocks from our house!

We travel often on weekends during the spring and summer to flea markets, 'brocantes' and antiques fairs all over the south of France, searching for the linens and the other items we sell.

When at home we enjoy our family--especially our children and our 3 adorable English grandchildren-- when they can visit us, or we can visit them in England.

My son comes to visit us once a year from America.

While my husband does all the 'admin' work for our business, I do lots of washing and ironing of the vintage linens we sell which strangely I can say I really enjoy!

I'd love to find more time to paint, knit and sew--and maybe that will happen!

All in all, we love our life here in France and the work we do to bring these fine old linens and antiques to our customers around the world.

Again thank you so much for visiting us...and do come back often...we are always adding 'new' old things...and we love making new friends!
