An unusual money box in the form of an airmail postbox, dating to the 1930s. It is made of lithographed tinplate and unusually is coloured blue rather than red.

Blue postboxes were introduced to British streets in the early 1930s. They were painted airforce blue to differentiate them from standard postboxes. By the 1930s regular airmail services to Europe and the British colonies were operating and, to facilitate easy collection of the mail, the dedicated postboxes were introduced. Only around 300 of the blue boxes were installed in Britain and around half of these were in London, making them a relatively rare sight. The service was suspended at the start of the war, and by the end of the war airmail letters could be posted anywhere, so the blue boxes became defunct. Money boxes promoting the use of the airmail postboxes were also issued for a very limted period and as a result they are rare today.

Welcome to Ginger Tom's Curious Eclectic.  We are a husband and wife team, both with a lifelong interest in antiques. Our business stems from the usual collector turned dealer scenario.  As our own collections grew, it became obvious we needed to redistribute some items in order to make space to buy new treasures to feed our own habit.

Buying to sell seemed the natural progression from this. We have been involved in buying and selling since 2004, but have only recently taken the decision to establish an online presence. We don't specialise in any particular area, but our interests do influence our stock purchases to a degree.

Our stock includes a varied mix of unusual antique, interesting vintage and stylish contemporary objects that would suit many different settings. Our key criteria is that we only buy, and therefore only sell, items that we would have in our own home and believe that if we like something, others will too.

Our opening hours are 9.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.
