Great quality large antique galvanised / zinc plated iron tank of riveted construction with angled sides, handles and sitting on a reinforced cross strapped base and disc feet. Big shiny rivets!
Made by DAVIES BROS & CO LTD, WOLVERHAMPTON (and bearing an oval brass makers label with this information and the founding date 1838). English, late 19th century. The firm was one of the first hot dip galvanising companies in the world.
In excellent condition with no rust, dents, bends, looseness or losses. And no oil. The base is still strong and thick.
It has been fully cleaned, polished and clear waxed inside and out. It retains its original paint which gives it a leather like look.
It may have originated as a general purpose bin / tank but had been in use as a blacksmiths quenching tank.
It would of course make a great fireside log bin and will last "forever"
Dimensions in inches/cm;
39.5"/100cm max width including handles (37"/94cm without handles).
32"/82cm minimum width at base.
20"/51cm depth at top (17"/43cm depth at base)

Edward Haes has been dealing in architectural elements and antiques for the past 20 years, initially sourcing most of his stock from disused public buildings and demolition sites.  Some of his architectural pieces can be found on The Hoarde.

He enjoyed the social history of these places and wishes all his later purchases could have the same perfect provenance.

He continues to buy a diverse range of antiques, with a speciality in lighting, mainly from the UK and sells to dealers, commercial and private clients. He is happy to “tune in” to customers projects and help advise on selecting  the correct pieces.  You can also find some of Haes other items on the Decorative Collective website as well.

Viewings are welcome by appointment only.
