Item Description
Charmingly simple, wonderfully naive - there's something about this hand-painted 'No Exit' sign that really appeals. It's painted on a single plank of wood (not board) and has a basic edging. Likely to date to the late 1930s/early '40s it would have originally been nailed to a post and the holes from this can be seen running through the middle of the sign, though this doesn't impact the legibility or impact of the piece. The sign could early be refitted to a post, be hung by affixing a mirror plate or screw eye or simply sat as per the photos. The sign measures 48cm wide x 18.5cm high x 3cm deep.
