"He's not the Messiah... He's just a naughty boy." Monty Python's Life of Brian is a 1979 British comedy film starring and written by the British surreal comedy troupe Monty Python.

The film tells the story of Brian Cohen, a young Jewish man who is born on the same day as - and next door to - Jesus Christ, and is subsequently mistaken for the Messiah.

Following the withdrawal of funding by EMI Films just days before production was scheduled to begin, long-time Monty Python fan and former member of the Beatles, George Harrison, arranged financing for Life of Brian through the formation of his company HandMade Films.

The film contains themes of religious satire that were controversial at the time of its release, drawing accusations of blasphemy, and protests from some religious groups. This resulted in bans on the film's showing in parts of the UK, Ireland and Norway...

Despite this, the film was a box office success - the fourth-highest-grossing film in the United Kingdom in 1979, and highest grossing of any British film in the United States that year. It's popularity has remained strong over the past four decades, with the film being named "greatest comedy film of all time" by several magazines and television networks.

Here we have an original US one-sheet film poster, with the NSS number in the bottom right hand corner indiciating that the poster was produced in 1979 - when the film was released in the States. The poster depicts striking, bold graphics (with possible design 'inspriation' taken from the 1959 film Ben-Hur) and makes for a real statement piece of wall decor. The poster remains in decent condition with only minor wear along the fold lines (typical of glossy posters from this period) and four small patches along the lower edge where something (probably selotape) has removed some of the backgroud print.

The poster has been professionally framed using conservation grade backing paper and is ready to hang. Including the frame it measures 107cm high x 71.5cm wide x 2.5cm deep

I’m Louis Walpole. Over a decade of working for and alongside some of the best antique dealers in the country at London’s renowned Portobello Road have helped me to form a detailed understanding of, and appreciation for, a diverse array of antiques. In 2016, after ‘dabbling’ in the trade since childhood I decided to follow my heart and (ignoring a myriad of people advising against it) leave my salaried job to trade full time. Since then I have travelled around England and Western Europe collecting the pieces that particularly interest me. These pieces loosely follow the themes of; automotive, advertising, scientific and industrial. I have a select number of items on display in Atlam on Portobello Road. The shop is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and on Saturdays from 8am to 5pm.

If you would like to view any of my pieces in London, please get in touch to confirm that they’re at the shop or to arrange for me to take them there for you. It may also be possible for me to bring items to your home/bar/garage/pub etc so that they can be fully appreciated in-situ, again please just get in touch and we’ll see what can be organised."
