Item Details

Absolutely beautiful Antique European Marriage or Dowry Chest dated 1867. These stunning Chests were very often made for and then subsequently given to a couple on their Wedding day. They were traditionally filled to the brim with wedding gifts for their future together. Similar to this gorgeous Chest, they are painted by hand, very symbolically using bright colours, flowers, garlands such like the design on the Chest we have here. The Chest is incredibly heavy, especially with the magnificent decorative metal strapping abound the corners and two in the middle. The handles are also substantial.
Lifting up the lid is very well thought out with a clever, original, internal pole keeping the lid up securely.
This investment piece of furniture could sit so well in your home, from bedroom for storage of blankets and bedding or clothing or downstairs as a real practical storage item.
This Antique Chest has beautiful proportions and is an exceptional piece of investment furniture.
The paint is in such great condition considering its age and is beautiful with hues and tone colouration fitting with those years of historical use.
h 88cm - floor to top of dome
w 156cm - incl handles
d 76cm - widest point to corners edge

This piece of furniture is a substantial weight and would require a two person lift into position upon arrival.
