JOHN HOPWOOD (British 1942-2015). Berkshire College of Art 1958-62.
Untitled charcoal portrait on paper affixed to heavy card, of a girl, initialled lower right and dated 1992. The sheet it is sketched on is 42 x 44.5 cm excluding binder holes on left side. It could be mounted for framing very neatly to obscure the sketchpad binding holes. The backing card is 52 x 55 cm. The artist is highly regarded, Hopwood lived & worked from St Ives in Cornwall from the late 1990s. Exhibited at the Royal Academy 1974 and had several works accepted for RA Summer Exhibitions. Two exhibitions at the New Millenium Gallery St Ives in 2005 and 2008. Two works are in the National Collection.
This is one of two Hopwood works we had in our collection, it came from a studio sale of his works in 2017 in Cornwall, it was under glass until 14th May 2020 so is in good condition. We have removed the frame (it was absolutely dreadful and in poor condition), we are selling it raw like this so you can source a decent mount and frame of your choice yourself to get it looking fabulous. It will be held in acid-free tissue paper here until it is sold, and for transit.

We may be able to offer free UK mainland shipping on this..check with us for your postcode location before buying!

We are always happy to try and meet buyers of large or fragile works on the M5 or M4 services during the daytime if it helps. We travel fairly regularly to Derbyshire (M5 M42 A38) and Devon (M5 A38 or A30) so if you can wait for our next journey to get the item with a personal handover - we'll always try to meet you. We also have a stock viewing point at our gallery wall showroom, inside the wonderful Betty & Beatties Interiors in Nailsworth in the Cotswolds, near Stroud. Nailsworth sits between Cheltenham and Bath on the A46.

MastheadArt has been trading since 2004, we specialise in salvaged and studio art of all ages, and carry a lot of smaller mounted stock perfect for gallery walls. We love the quirky smaller pieces of work which create visual talking points, and love to help someone get their real art collection off to a truly affordable start. Once you buy your first piece of original work, you’ll never go back to chain store or mass produced imported prints again! There is an About Us page on our own website.
We sell at art and vintage fairs, through an interiors store in the Cotswolds, and on a variety of online platforms. We have sold in excess of 1,200 pictures online.

MastheadArt is run by Jo Eveleigh, an art dealer for 14 years commercially, a private collector prior to developing the business, operating from the leafy Cotswolds with regular sojourns in Devon and Derbyshire. Her favourite finds are studio collections of hoarded art, producing gems for the re-sale market from years of sketch collections and work which the artist never brought to the marketplace. Carrying antique stock right through to contemporary work, her favourite years are the fifty years of greatest cultural swings in Britain, between the 1920s and 1970s.

A veteran of the car industry, and having lived in various parts of the UK, Jo is now thoroughly enjoying saving great pictures for the nation. Her extensive stocklist bears testament to the fact that Jo always says she cannot walk away from a great picture. Lots of her stock is eminently suitable for creating salon wall arrangements, smaller mounted works which make wonderfully quirky space fillers.

Having had a gallery in previous years, Jo now enjoys the flexibility of selling online, through art fairs, and at a small number of retail outlets throughout the year. Viewings of any item can take place at her permanent gallery wall space at Betty and Beatties Vintage Interiors in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, where an amount of her stock is in display but any item seen online can be taken there for viewing and purchase. If you are close to any of her regular trips to Devon and Derbyshire, she is always pleased to try and meet up at a suitable venue to facilitate viewings too.
