Overa Tremaine (1897-1965). Watercolour signed and dated 1927 of a view through a an archway of foliage to hills beyond.
Framed and glazed. Image within mount aperture 23.5 x 34.5 cm, frame 49 x 37.5 cm.
Overa's background is quite colourful. Born 23rd April 1897, Mary Frances Ernestine Overa Tremaine, daughter of Richard and Gertrude Tremaine, in Dorchester, Dorset. Her father was a Cornishman from Ladock, and a Major (later a Colonel and a CBE) in the Royal Artillery, her mother was American (became a naturalised British subject). Her mother's maiden name was Gertrude Agathe Amanda Ernestine Landell (known as Lissan at the time of marriage to Richard Tremaine as she was a widow from a previous marriage in 1879 in Manhattan to George Lissan). The family clearly liked grand names!
There is a mystery surrounding her parents marriage as there are two marriage certificates, one in Sep 1890 at St Martin in the Fields, and one Jan 1892 at St Georges, Hanover Square. Both bearing correct names, same father's details and same signatures. Gertrude's father was Everard Landell, a Judge. From the early 1900's the family lived in Folkestone and Overa remained there until she died.
Exhibited at the Woodward Institute in Folkestone, Kent 1922. We suspect Overa was quite a feisty lady as in 1931 there was a news report of her almost running over a witness when she committed a parking offence, she was fined £1 in Folkestone!

Please note that this is glazed, no parcel courier companies insure glass, or damage from glass, in a parcel. We do pack well but if you want it shipped with glazing intact it would have to be at your own risk. See below for personal handover possibilities as an alternative..

MastheadArt is run by Jo Eveleigh, an art dealer for 14 years commercially, a private collector prior to developing the business, operating from the leafy Cotswolds with regular sojourns in Devon and Derbyshire. Her favourite finds are studio collections of hoarded art, producing gems for the re-sale market from years of sketch collections and work which the artist never brought to the marketplace. Carrying antique stock right through to contemporary work, her favourite years are the fifty years of greatest cultural swings in Britain, between the 1920s and 1970s.

A veteran of the car industry, and having lived in various parts of the UK, Jo is now thoroughly enjoying saving great pictures for the nation. Her extensive stocklist bears testament to the fact that Jo always says she cannot walk away from a great picture. Lots of her stock is eminently suitable for creating salon wall arrangements, smaller mounted works which make wonderfully quirky space fillers.

Having had a gallery in previous years, Jo now enjoys the flexibility of selling online, through art fairs, and at a small number of retail outlets throughout the year. Viewings of any item can take place at her permanent gallery wall space at Betty and Beatties Vintage Interiors in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, where an amount of her stock is in display but any item seen online can be taken there for viewing and purchase. If you are close to any of her regular trips to Devon and Derbyshire, she is always pleased to try and meet up at a suitable venue to facilitate viewings too.
