During the mid-nineteenth century, the Singer Company became world-famous with its invention, the sewing machine. In 1910, the company launched a range of professional furniture for the textile industry, the centrepiece of the collection a stool with a cast-iron base and wooden seat.

Originally, these stools lined factory floors, and were adapted over time with a backrest to make them more comfortable for workers.

The Seat is height adjustable via lockable thread. Cast Singer manufactures mark to base.

Seat Height:
Min 48cm – max 66 cm approx
Width 35cm
Depth 43cm

Origin: West Yorkshire Mill, UK

Circa: 1930

Workshop Report: Overall Very Good, Cast metal in original condition with original wing nuts, waxed for future protection. The current wooden elm seats are not factory original, they have been historically replaced, solid and waxed. Backrest nut missing wingtips from adjuster nut.

Mayfly Vintage is an online industrial and vintage furniture and homeware shop based in Hampshire, England. Our style is an eclectic mix from the industrial look to old school furniture and French vintage.

Mayfly Vintage was established after years of my husband and I collecting vintage pieces of furniture and homeware in the UK and across Europe. We started off selling at the monthly Winchester Vintage Market and now exhibit at antiques fairs in the South of England alongside our online store.

The majority of our pieces are one-off unique items so our stock changes all the time. We hope you enjoy what you see and if you like our style and there is a particular item which you can’t see please do contact us and we may be able to source it for you.
