Set of 4 Vintage Stacking School Chairs By Remploy – A

These chairs have a grey tubular metal frame with bent ply seat and backrest. A classic and highly desirable British chair design inspired by the contemporary designs of Bauhaus.
Founded in 1945 by Ernest Bevin, the Minister for Labour, Remploy opened its first factory in Bridgend, South Wales. The company’s initial workforce was made up mainly of disabled ex-miners, the initial name was the Disabled Persons Employment Corporation with the aim to give disabled people a chance of support and earn a decent income. In 1946, the factory network was growing, and the company renamed themselves Remploy, taken from the literal term ‘re-employ’.

(seat height 43cm)

Circa: 1940s

Workshop Report: Chairs are structurally sound and generally in good condition with a few minor chips to the plywood around the rivets and to some of the edges. They have been waxed for future protection.
As with all our products, this product is an original vintage item so there are signs of wear from use.

Mayfly Vintage is an online industrial and vintage furniture and homeware shop based in Hampshire, England. Our style is an eclectic mix from the industrial look to old school furniture and French vintage.

Mayfly Vintage was established after years of my husband and I collecting vintage pieces of furniture and homeware in the UK and across Europe. We started off selling at the monthly Winchester Vintage Market and now exhibit at antiques fairs in the South of England alongside our online store.

The majority of our pieces are one-off unique items so our stock changes all the time. We hope you enjoy what you see and if you like our style and there is a particular item which you can’t see please do contact us and we may be able to source it for you.
