An outstanding Charles X vendange table with inset leather top on a predominantly fruitwood base.
French, circa 1830.
A great conversation piece, the table was previously used for wine tasting at a chateau in Épernay in the Champagne wine region.
The leather top is a rare feature and indicates that the table was used for tasting of wine, rather than at any earlier point in the production process. The tilt-top function allowed ease of transportation and storage in the chateau cellars.
In very good order. A beautiful patina to the leather and the tilting mechanism functions well. Minor repairs and evidence of historic woodworm to the base.
