An iconic side chair from Lambert Hitchcock, American furniture manufacturer at the start of the 19th century.

An early example, produced in Hitchcocksville, Connecticut, circa 1830.

The frame is turned, from the crest rail to the front seat rail, and embellished with a stencilled fruit and floral design over a surface painted to imitate rosewood.

A rare survivor of early 19th century mass-produced furniture. Loss to the painted finish has left a charming patina. The probably original, rush seat is worn, adding great provenance.
