A simple, but very atmospheric framed oil on canvas painting of Cancale lighthouse in Brittany (which is still there on the quayside in Cancale, and hasn't much changed since this was painted). This is in a mid-century frame with fabric insert, and signed ‘Andrade’ in pencil on the back, with an address in Bromley, Kent, which is apparently where she lived latterly.

Athene Andrade (1908-1975) was a British artist, teacher and print-maker, who studied at the Central School of Arts. Her work was exhibited at the Royal Academy, the National Society of Painters, the Society of Women Artists and other institutions.

Mole Vintage is run by husband and wife, Kevin and Sara Moore and grew out of our shared enthusiasm for sourcing unusual and characterful vintage items.  We are not especially interested in (or expert about) high-end antiques, or followers of current trends, nor bound by a particular period, but we are drawn to pieces which have a strong presence.  Either because of their inherent quality and design, or because they are something unique or eye-catching.

Much, but not all, of our furniture, lighting, mirrors and decorative items are sourced in France, where we have developed a great network of local dealers since we started six years ago.
