A huge, old lantern used on French railways, which has been converted for use as an impressive table lamp. Both of the two lenses are original and undamaged, apart from very slight scratches to the glass. A small brass plate on the front of the lamp reads ‘à droite’, and the maker’s stamp on the back reads ‘Epervier Gillet et Cie’, a company which specialised in the manufacture of oil lamps for the rail industry in France up until the Second World War.

Please note: This lamp is best suited to use at low level, on a low shelf or table, because the effect of the powerful lenses means that, viewed at eye level, the light can be dazzling.

Mole Vintage is run by husband and wife, Kevin and Sara Moore and grew out of our shared enthusiasm for sourcing unusual and characterful vintage items.  We are not especially interested in (or expert about) high-end antiques, or followers of current trends, nor bound by a particular period, but we are drawn to pieces which have a strong presence.  Either because of their inherent quality and design, or because they are something unique or eye-catching.

Much, but not all, of our furniture, lighting, mirrors and decorative items are sourced in France, where we have developed a great network of local dealers since we started six years ago.
