Charming French champlevé enamel and bronze candlestick with an onyx base and ball feet, circa 19th century.

I believe that this was originally an inkwell with a domed enamelled lid, you can see where the lid would have been attached with a hinge. With the lid long gone, it makes a lovely little candlestick or chamberstick.

Champlevé enamel is produced by etching the design into the metal to create the spaces for the enamel to fill, which is then fired, cooled and polished.

No43Collectables is the husband and wife team of Gaynor and Dave Prior. Based in Cumbria and named after one of their pet sheep, No43, they have a passion for renovation and treasure hunting.

Gaynor is the main buyer, with a love of chinoiserie, faux bamboo, carved oak, vintage movie posters, bones, Sex Pistols and anything with an elephant. She basically buys what she loves or whatever catches her eye. Dave, on the other hand, can turn his hand to most renovation projects and specialises in lighting.

No43’s stock is available to view by appointment, please get in touch. As soon as Antique Fairs start rolling again, No43 will hit the road, starting with Newark Antiques Fair.
