Founded in 2015, Penderyn Antiques is an independent family-owned business born through a combination of the founders' respective passions. Leigh, a carpenter of over 30 years, was seeking a new venture where he could utilise his lifelong skills and passions. Still early in his career, Dan sought an unconventional and dynamic career and way of life. In 2018, Leigh's daughter and Dan's partner Nia, joined the business as the third director.
Penderyn Antiques has now become a national retailer with an impressive online outlet, supported by its renowned pink chapel showroom in the Welsh Valleys (near Aberdare). We work hard to remove barriers to buying antique furniture, introducing them to a broader market to drive sustainability, conscious consumption and a way of introducing character and uniqueness to any home.
Our showroom is perched on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, situated in the small Welsh village of Penderyn. Driving through the village, you’ll come across a large distinctive pink chapel building and it’s here you’ll find the home of Penderyn Antiques. Originally a Welsh Independent Chapel, Soar was built in 1860 and later rebuilt in 1912 by architect Thomas Roderick of Aberdare in the Arts and Craft style. The rebuilt Chapel, which seated around 500 people, was considerably larger than its predecessor, and a lot of the original materials of stone, timber, slates and even nails were re-used. The extra stone needed for the new Chapel was quarried from the nearby Cefn Cadlan quarry and transported to the site by the railway line which passed outside the Chapel.
By the end of the 20th Century, with the declining numbers of people attending the Chapel, Soar closed its doors for the last time as a place of worship in 1983.
In 2015, Soar Chapel re-opened its doors as The Penderyn Furniture Company, now Penderyn Antiques, becoming a must-visit place on the antique trail in Wales. Today, the chapel has been sensitively restored maintaining much it’s original character and features to become the showroom for our unique collection of antique furniture. Inside you’ll find two floors full of beautiful furniture in a variety of styles from Welsh antique farmhouse furniture to mid-century modern and beyond.
Following on from the success of our Chapel showroom, we have opened two warehouse showrooms just eight minutes’ drive from Penderyn. These showrooms are both split over two floors and generally hold our larger pieces of furniture, as well as hundreds of unique and interesting items. Here, you’ll also find our photography studio where our photographer documents each item ready to list for sale online.
We welcome customers to come and visit our warehouse showrooms to see the quality of the furniture and meet the team. Our warehouses are located at Units 21 and 22 Hirwaun Industrial Estate, Hirwaun, CF449UP and are open Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm.
Please note that not all products are always on display so if there is a particular item you are interested in viewing, just let us know and we will do our very best to get it ready and on display for you.
All of our items are lovingly restored in our workshop, run by our master carpenter Leigh, who undertakes all kinds of restoration work to return our pieces to their full glory. You can find more about our the restoration process our pieces go through here.
Our master carpenter has over thirty years’ experience, and now has a well-established team including two junior restorers who are quickly becoming skilled craftsmen in themselves. In addition to our fantastic workshop team, we also use an array of independent craftspeople such as a local upholster and local joiner who are a valued addition to our team.
We always get asked, how to care for your antiques? Leigh has given his great advice in this blog. We’ve also introduced fiddes wax on our website, which you can purchase along with your order to keep your furniture looking it’s best for years to come.

HOARDE VINTAGE ADVICE:
It is the individual Dealers responsibility to make themselves aware of what the Distance Selling Regulation rules contain; these regulations are open to change, may vary and are detailed, so you may wish to familiarise yourself with such via the many websites available to you on this subject.
Contract of purchase is between the Client and the Seller, not the The Hoarde, we are just the introductory agent. Your rights include, but are not limited to the below. You must check with each individual Seller what their own terms and conditions are and what their own purchase and returns policy include. The Hoarde is not responsible for the description, condition or attribution of an item as we do not have sight of any item and do not have physical ownership of any item, but we do endeavour to only allow professional and experienced dealers onto our website. We do not collect payment or hold such unless specifically agreed prior to purchase and then only as Agent do we hold funds, which are held by the The Hoarde until both parties have confirmed such can be released. If such funds are held and an item is returned, release back to the client of such funds, will be subject to the Seller confirming the item has been returned according to their returns policy. Items are not released to the Buyer until the agreed payment is received by The Hoarde. The Hoarde is not responsible for any related bank charges, transfer fees, currency fluctuations or otherwise. For more details on this facility, please contact owner Jane Walton at [email protected]
You have the right to return items purchased via the internet up to 14 days following receipt of the item to the specified delivery address. If you collect an item in person or arrange your own delivery, then this term starts immediataely you or your carrier collects the item (this is to avoid your own carrier sitting on the item for a long time before delivering it).
WHAT WE RECOMMEND:
Always ask for an invoice from the Seller. On the invoice you should have the date of the item, any provence, full description, including any restoration or damage. It should state terms of payment and delivery and returns. It should also show the business name, business address, contact numbers, email address and VAT number if applicable.
You should ask for confirmation of your purchase by email so that you have written proof of the agreed price, any additional charges, eg delivery and if you are having the item delivered, ask how and who will be undertaking it and what the Sellers return policy is.
Ask for email confirmation of what your responsibilities are should you wish to return an item, including re-packing, how you must confirm your desire to return the item, eg email or by telephone and be clear on the Seller's return policy.
The prices indicated for items on this site are correct at the time the item is listed, barring any error by the Seller. However, the Euro and Dollar prices shown are for indication only and may vary as rates fluctuate and you may incur your own bank charges when making payment from abroad.
If a Member is based in Europe, you may need to confirm with them their specific purchase and returns policies. However Distance Selling Regulations apply througout Europe as far as The Hoarde is aware.
Please do not be concerned about the above statements. They are there to help and protect both parties and should help to avoid any disputes by making things clear. The owner of this site, Jane Walton, is always happy to help and assist where possible and clients are very welcome to contact Jane should they need advice or assistance. Being a dealer herself for 16 years, she knows that most dealers are good, hardworking and professional people who understand the rules and how to be polite and helpful to clients at all times. They can help you obtain shipping or transport quotes for example. Never be worried about speaking to a Dealer and asking as many questions as you need to about an item, they will be happy to help you. Please do remember though, that they will always be more receptive to clients who show them the same respect.
For the avoidance of doubt 'Dealer' and 'Member' are the same.
