Antique Religious Oil on Canvas Portrait

Bought in Provence in Southern France.

Probably 18th but possibly early 19th Century.

We believe it depicts Saint Elizabeth of Hungary who despite being a princess devoted her life to the sick and poor.

As can be seen from the photos there is some wear and tear but we think it adds to its overall charm. At some point in its life, the canvas stretcher has been stabilised onto a wooden board and then the canvas has been restretched over that.

Measuring: 34cm high x 25cm wide x 2cm deep.

Dimensions:

  • H: 34cm (13.39in)
  • W: 25cm (9.84in)
  • D: 2cm (0.79in)

Period:

18th Century & Earlier
