Anthony Benjamin 'Pyramids' - an original pencil signed etching; unframed

An original etching with aquatint, pencil signed by the artist lower right, titled 'Pyramids' dated (19)77 and numbered from a limited edition of 75 prints. The etching is on good quality paper and is on a full untrimmed sheet. It has the impressed mark of the publisher lower left. The image is in very good condition. There are one or two very minor marks to the margins and two small hinges to the reverse of the print.

About 13.5 x 10.9 inches image size and about 20.5 x 15.1 inches sheet size; the work is unframed

Anthony Benjamin (1931-2002) was primarily a painter and printmaker of abstracts. Born in Boarhunt, Hampshire he studied art at the Regent Street Polytechnic, London and then in the Paris studio of Fernand Leger 1951. In 1955 he settled in St Ives, Cornwall and later studied with S W Hayter at the famous Atelier 17 in Paris 1958-59. He exhibited widely including a one man show at the Newlyn Art Gallery 1958 and at Gimpel Fils. His work is held internationally, including numerous examples in the Tate Gallery, the British Council, Government Art Collection, and MOMA New York.

I think I was always destined to have an interest in the world of Modern British Art and 20th Century design. My father wrote books on the subject in the 1970s and having grown up (literally!) surrounded by mainly 20th Century art, I began to take an interest myself in the late 1990s. My personal taste is in the work of artists such as Wlhelmina Barns-Graham, Lynn Chadwick, Alan Davie, Terry Frost, William Gear and Julian Trevelyan. In regard to furniture I collect, and sometimes deal in, pieces by designers including Poul Kjaerholm, Hans Wegner, Arne Jacobsen and Robin Day.

The RetroSixty website stocks paintings, drawings and prints mainly by 20th Century British artists and I also have a few works by continental, American and Australian artists. I established the business in 2006 and this website is focused mainly on affordable work likely to be within the budget of people starting out or upgrading a collection, as I try to keep every item priced competitively at less then £500. The prices always include shipping within mainland Great Britain, with items packed securely to a high standard, using recycled materials wherever possible, and shipped promptly. I do ship further afield and discounted prices to other locations are available on request (please see the contact form on the Hoarde Vintage website adjacent to my listings).

I also have another modern art business,, which is hosted on, the sister website to the Hoarde Vintage. That website shows work for the more experienced collector and / or dealer, or indeed public collections with whom we have worked in the past. I provide a condition report on each item with my listings on the Hoarde Vintage. The authenticity of each piece is guaranteed and a detailed receipt is issued on sale. If viewings of works in person is required, we are in Angmering, West Sussex, and viewings are possible, usually seven days a week, but by appointment only. Also further images of works for sale will be available on request.
