Emanoel Araujo - 'Bahia' a limited edition portfolio of four original prints published by Editora Cultrix in 1965 (NB. There were originally seven prints in this suite; we have four prints only, as detailed below)

The Bahia portfolio of original linocuts ('gravuras originais') was published in 1965 by Editora Cultrix of Sao Paulo, Brazil, in a limited edition of 400 portfolios, each with seven linocuts. Each linocut was signed by the artist in pencil. We are offering the portfolio as published except we have four linocuts only, not the seven as published. The works we have are known as: BOY WITH PINWHEELS: CAT : THREE WOMEN ; DANCE. Our part portfolio is numbered 244 out of the edition of 400. The linocuts appear never to have been framed and are all in very good condition with no fading or tears to the paper. They have been viewed over the years and as such are not absolutely mint.

The linocuts each measure about 21.2 x 14.7 inches paper size; they are unframed and held in a portfolio with hardback covers and supporting material as published.

The price is inclusive of delivery to Great Britain mainland. Please enquire of us for shipping costs to other destinations.

Emanoel Araújo (born 1940) is a very well-known Brazilian sculptor and printmaker, curator and collector, who was born in Salvador da Bahia. He studied printmaking at the School of Fine Arts of Bahia from 1961-65 and had his first solo show as early as 1959. Since then he has exhibited widely, both within Brazil and internationally, and has received many awards among them the Gold Medal of the III Graphic Biennial of Florence, Italy (1972). He was elected Best Engraver of the Year, 1974, and Best Sculptor of the Year, 1983, both awards made by the Association of Art Critics of São Paulo. In the 1980s he became the director of the Bahia Museum of Arts and taught graphic arts and sculpture at the Arts College at the City University of New York. In the 1990s he led the modernisation of the Pinacoteca of the State of São Paulo, of which he was director, and in 2004 he founded the Afro Brazil Museum. I think I was always destined to have an interest in the world of Modern British Art and 20th Century design. My father wrote books on the subject in the 1970s and having grown up (literally!) surrounded by mainly 20th Century art, I began to take an interest myself in the late 1990s. My personal taste is in the work of artists such as Wlhelmina Barns-Graham, Lynn Chadwick, Alan Davie, Terry Frost, William Gear and Julian Trevelyan. In regard to furniture I collect, and sometimes deal in, pieces by designers including Poul Kjaerholm, Hans Wegner, Arne Jacobsen and Robin Day.

The RetroSixty website stocks paintings, drawings and prints mainly by 20th Century British artists and I also have a few works by continental, American and Australian artists. I established the business in 2006 and this website is focused mainly on affordable work likely to be within the budget of people starting out or upgrading a collection, as I try to keep every item priced competitively at less then £500. The prices always include shipping within mainland Great Britain, with items packed securely to a high standard, using recycled materials wherever possible, and shipped promptly. I do ship further afield and discounted prices to other locations are available on request (please see the contact form on the Hoarde Vintage website adjacent to my listings).

I also have another modern art business,, which is hosted on, the sister website to the Hoarde Vintage. That website shows work for the more experienced collector and / or dealer, or indeed public collections with whom we have worked in the past. My father's business is also to be found on the Decorative Collective.

I provide a condition report on each item with my listings on the Hoarde Vintage. The authenticity of each piece is guaranteed and a detailed receipt is issued on sale. If viewings of works in person is required, we are in Angmering, West Sussex, and viewings are possible, usually seven days a week, but by appointment only. Also further images of works for sale will be available on request.

I do hope you enjoy the visit to my site/s, and if I can help with anything, no matter how large or small, please feel free to ask. Thank you for looking.
