A antique campaign rocking chair by Peter Cooper for R W Winfield.
A beautiful piece of 19th century design of exceptional form, the iron framework retaining traces of it's original gilt paint with a pleasing texture, supporting the studded, horsehair filled cushion. First exhibited at the great exhibition of 1851, this iconic design has seen many production runs throughout the 19th & 20th century with this example being an extremely early (possibly first) edition. Stamped to the rear of the frame not quite legible but appears to be a makers mark which incorporates a crown symbol.
A wonderful & very sculptural piece of furniture.
