The very earliest cloches were bell shaped, the word 'cloche' is french for bell. In the Victorian era they became very popular in British large estates and country homes. These were a luxury item and in 19th century French market gardens they were a must to ensure production. This particular cloche style are known as Hand Panes, made from triangle and squares of glass mounted in cast iron, they can be thought of as mini green houses for the home gardener, you can warm up the soil underneath to warm enough before you plant your seedlings. A fabulous example and in great condition with no cracks or chips. Add style and history to your garden.

A love of decorative interior design, craftsmanship and personality inspired the creation of That Vintage Place. With a fondness for the quirky individual pieces that are not run of the mill, I turned a passion into a business.
