A rare and unique pair of original English folk art oil paintings on canvas, one of a goldfinch and one of a bullfinch. These pieces likely date from the Victorian period or earlier, they have a charming naivety to them, and are likely the work of a self trained artist rather than a classicaly trained proffesional, making them very collectable and a true one-of-a-kind.

Both in good condition for their age, with visable evidence of historic patching on the back, and one visable on the front of the gold finch one (as pictured), but doesnt detract from the image istelf and adds something of a rustic charm.

Both are signed, but I can't work out what they say.

The Black Dog, in spirit, was formed a couple of years ago, but only became an official business with the opening of our physical shop in March of 2022.

A father and son team, Liam Casey manages the shop, both online and in person and is also responsible for the curation of the stock, guided by his love and appreciation for simple, time-tested items of quality construction or design.

Whllst Richard Casey, a professional restorer of antiques with over 30 years of experience, is primarily employed behind the scenes, in his farmhouse barn-turned-workshop, ensuring the structural integrity of everything we sell, all without losing any of the original patina and cosmetic imperfections that make each of our pieces so unique.

Shop opening times are Friday to Sunday, 10.30am to 4.30pm.
