A very charming and well executed large folk art painting of a dog in a barn, painted on what looks to be a window shutter- suggesting the piece was originally from a tavern or inn. The piece is Irish and likely dates from the later part of the 19th century.

Overall condition is good, as pictured, with just a few surface abrasions to the painting itself. We have left it in its original found condition, but could benefit from a light cleaning if the more rustic look doesn’t appeal.

The Black Dog, in spirit, was formed a couple of years ago, but only became an official business with the opening of our physical shop in March of 2022.

A father and son team, Liam Casey manages the shop, both online and in person and is also responsible for the curation of the stock, guided by his love and appreciation for simple, time-tested items of quality construction or design.

Whllst Richard Casey, a professional restorer of antiques with over 30 years of experience, is primarily employed behind the scenes, in his farmhouse barn-turned-workshop, ensuring the structural integrity of everything we sell, all without losing any of the original patina and cosmetic imperfections that make each of our pieces so unique.

Shop opening times are Friday to Sunday, 10.30am to 4.30pm.
