A very fine and very rare antique gate leg table in oak dating from the late 17th/early 18th century, England, featuring folk art style carving to the gate legs. The carving may have been added later, but is still very old- Victorian at least. The table itself is quite primitive, with all the unique appeal of a country piece. Charming little details such as the not quite symmetrical turning of the main legs.

Condition report:

The condition is remarkably good, with no notable chips, bumps, cracks, or scratches. The piece has a great patina, especially on the top, from years and years of polishing, as well as historic stains as expected for a piece of such age (all pictured)

The Black Dog, in spirit, was formed a couple of years ago, but only became an official business with the opening of our physical shop in March of 2022.

A father and son team, Liam Casey manages the shop, both online and in person and is also responsible for the curation of the stock, guided by his love and appreciation for simple, time-tested items of quality construction or design.

Whllst Richard Casey, a professional restorer of antiques with over 30 years of experience, is primarily employed behind the scenes, in his farmhouse barn-turned-workshop, ensuring the structural integrity of everything we sell, all without losing any of the original patina and cosmetic imperfections that make each of our pieces so unique.

Shop opening times are Friday to Sunday, 10.30am to 4.30pm.
