19th Century Hand Carved Jesus

19th Century Hand Carved Jesus

For sale in this LOT is a very rare solid wood first quarter 19th Century hand carved Jesus statue head. This item was obtained from a private dealer in Paris (France) from her personal collection of antique religious artefacts.

We believe that this item was originally removed from a larger and even full Jesus Christ church statue. Upon obtaining this item from a trusted and well renowned antique dealer we were told that this item was removed from a full statue of Jesus. The reason why only the head was removed was due to un-restorable cracking and splitting of the statue. The dealer had this item in her collection for many years before finally parting with it upon our persistent requests. It is truly a wonderfully detailed and very artistic item, the item has been hand carved from one piece of hardwood and the shaping of the item are both subtle and in wonderful sculpted from. The photographs really don’t do this item justice in its true form, the detail and patina of the wood is amazing to say the least. The face of the bust has a very unique and macabre style crack running down the middle, this look is what attracted us to the item in the first place, and I’m sure you will agree it’s quite special.

This item is completely authentic and untouched, structurally in wonderful condition. We have never seen another item of this nature and visual look before, this item is a complete one off and very unique and the owner of this item will not be disappointed.

Dimensions: H 14” x W 9” x D 9”

Condition: The item is completely solid and structurally sound, it shows signs of age through patina and colouring of the wood. Light markings and scuffs as expected due its age and use. The obvious crack in the centre of the face does not affect the structure of the item in anyway.
