Advertising Match Box c.1925

THE HOUSE OF ANTIQUES
Rare Union Match Bruxelles (Belgium) Tobacconist Advertising Oversized Match Box c.1925

For sale in this lot is a circa 1925 tobacconist’s oversized Union Match box. The artefact is housed in a bespoke handmade cast metal 4 foot display case. The metal frame is well made and on the reverse is a metal decorative crest as shown in the photos provided. The match box can be taken out of the case and once inserted into the stand the match box automatically displays as open due to a metal lip at the base. A truly wonderful example of old aged tobacco retail advertising display history. Each match stick can be removed from the box which opens and closes with ease. The Union Match company in Belgium ceased to exist in the 1940 and shortly after production of the matches also stopped. This is a rare example due to it being housed in a bespoke display case, still firm in form and condition and having a full set of original matches in the box, a truly brilliant display item and who ever purchases it will not be disappointed with its presence and overall decorative look.

Condition:

This item shows age, wear and tear due to its age, the surface (paint) is cracked in placed and shows a good patina, there is weathering across the cardboard of the box structure and loss of paint. The cast iron/metal display unit also shows age in the form of rust however both items are strong in form and structurally secure. photos aim to give close up detail to the condition of this wonderful item.
