Unique Boot Makers Shop Advertising Sign
We are proud to offer a unique early 20th Century 3-dimensional hand painted bootmakers/cobblers advertising trade sign. Made from old war department wooden board / card panels, painted by hand and supported with a wooden hinge so it can stand up freely. This highly decorative and iconic artefact was originally uncovered in Scotland in the cellar of a closed down retail shoe shop. Featuring Charlie Chaplin in a scene from his famous film “Modern Times”. We believe this advertising piece would have sat in the window of Malcolm Gunston Boot Makers as illustrated across the front of the board.
Size in inches approx.: H 47” x W 53” x D 3”
Age: 1930 – 1940
Origin: Scotland
Condition: This item is completely solid in structure and form, aged well with faded paint across the surface has left a natural patinated in sections, The Cardboard sections are weathered and aged at the edges as you may expect. with a light chip in sections, but this in our opinion just makes this item more decorative and special.

It’s quite simple. We buy what we like. We believe that extraordinary items are owned by extraordinary people who live in extraordinary spaces. We are driven by the passion to unearth and offer the most unusual, decorative and rarest objects.

Our house style is probably best described as artistic, theatrical and, even macabre.

We often get asked by our clients, “Where did you find that?” The answer is always the same. Look hard enough and you will find what you seek.
