English Fairground Shooting Target
We are proud to offer a rare scratch built English fairground shooting target game. A fully working example showing lots of character, the game functions with the customer shooting a pellet at the target. Each section of the cast metal target has spring loaded rings, from the outside to the bull’s eye. If the customer hits any individual ring a cast metal number drops down at the bottom to display the points scored. The mechanism is spring loaded and therefore the game can be reset by pulling the toggle rope to the right hands side of the box. This item is encased in a hand-crafted pine wooden box and is covered with a wonderful aged, cracked green paint and natural patina. Without doubt this is one of the best examples we have seen and is rare in this form due to its fully working mechanism. The air riffle is also included in this sale and is fully working.
Size in inches: H 25” x W 14” x D 9”
Origin: English
Period: Early 20th Century
Material: Cast metal and Pine wood
Condition: This example is completely solid in structure and form. A very well-made constructed pine wooden box with a small section missing in the front left (pictured). The cast metal target and numbers show age in the form of rust and pellet shots from previous use. The wooden box has its original colour which is covered with a naturally aged patination. This item has its original hanging hooks still in place. A fully functioning spring-loaded shooting gallery in wonderful original condition.

It’s quite simple. We buy what we like. We believe that extraordinary items are owned by extraordinary people who live in extraordinary spaces. We are driven by the passion to unearth and offer the most unusual, decorative and rarest objects.

Our house style is probably best described as artistic, theatrical and, even macabre.

We often get asked by our clients, “Where did you find that?” The answer is always the same. Look hard enough and you will find what you seek.
