THE HOUSE OF ANTIQUES
Rare Carved Wood with Glass Eyes Folk-art Shop Front Statue c.1940

For sale in this LOT is a wonderful French 1940s hand carved shop front welcoming statue. In the form of a gentleman this item comes with its original carved walking stick with brass loop and glass eyes as shown in the photos provided. The items is carved from sectioned aged wood and still has its first coat of original paint. The item is stood on a solid wooden attached plinth and has a wonderful character to its stance. The walking stick can be removed and is made from original Blackthorn style sprout walking stick which also has a wonderful brass loop attached in its centre. A very rare complete original item which is still structurally sound and in one piece.

Condition: The statue is obviously old and we would date this French artefact between 1930 and 1940. The item is worn in colour and faded also due its use and age. The hand is also missing a finger however this does not affect the walking stick being held. The item shows a great overall patina to the colour of the wood underneath the paint and is also cracked through age (not damage) in places as shown in the photos provided. Structurally secure in form and joints. It’s strongly suggested to view all photos provided before a purchase is made or propose questions if you are unsure of any of the above information regarding this item above.
