Rare English Folk-art Owl Decoy
A very rare and unusual handmade English Folk-art owl decoy, still in its original handmade purpose-built wooden numbered crate and stone stand (doesn’t fit in the box). This artefact is covered in real owl feathers and has a lead face with inserted glass eyes. The bespoke numbered wooden box is purpose built and supports the owl decoy perfectly to be carried and transported. The limestone stand is circular in shape fitting the owl to stand on perfectly. Likely to have been used in a barn to scare of other owls from settling in. Overall a wonderfully well-crafted handmade object that can easily be place internally as a sculptural decorative object, a very rare example and complete one-off item.
Date: Early 20th Century
Size in inches approx.: H 24” x W 10” x D 9”
Condition: This item is completely solid in structure and form. The feathers are worn in areas due to age and use, the wooden crate is heavily patinated, the lead face is faded in sections also so Please view all the photos provided as part of this sale.

It’s quite simple. We buy what we like. We believe that extraordinary items are owned by extraordinary people who live in extraordinary spaces. We are driven by the passion to unearth and offer the most unusual, decorative and rarest objects.

Our house style is probably best described as artistic, theatrical and, even macabre.

We often get asked by our clients, “Where did you find that?” The answer is always the same. Look hard enough and you will find what you seek.
