Mid - 20th Century French folk art shooting target
We are proud to offer a rare example of an French folk art fairground shooting target. In the form of a chicken this hand painted example is highly decorative and unique due to its working condition. This example is made from wood and metal with its mechanism in working order, stamped Eureka Brevet S.G.D.G. The customer would shoot the metal target, which would push in and release a safety hinge in the back of the chicken. This movement would then release an egg (likely wooden) into the basket and therefore rewarding the customer. The square metal section in the back of the figure can hold several eggs and closes once pushed back in, there are 2 wooden support stands that fold away. A lovely piece of English fairground folk art in overall good untouched condition considering its age.
Dimensions in inches: H 18” x W 15” x D 9”
Age:1940 - 1950
Condition: This item is completely solid in structure and form, aging has taken place over all the surface, which is what gives this item its decorative look. The beak of the chicken has been shot off at some point and loss of paint has taken place over all the edges for the chicken figure. The metal mechanism has elements of rust across it also. The photos aim to represent this items condition as best as possible. However, if you are unsure of specific areas, we strongly suggest you propose question before a purchase is made to avoid any confusion or disappointment.
