Early 20th Century Jigger Doll
We are proud to offer an early 20th century hand carved jigger doll. Made for a light pine wood, with hand carved detail across its face and lovely Chelsea boots. Jig dolls or les gigueux are old and established wooden or tin – plate “toys” for adults and children alike. Basically, they are dolls with loose limbs that step dance or “jig” on the end of a vibrating board or platform just like real step or clog dancers. Dance dolls have always been popular street entertainment for hundreds of years. From the 18th to 19th Century, In London they were frequently seen operated by street entertainers or buskers.

Condition: This item is completely solid in structure and form. Wear is present through faded and natural patina across all its surfaces, this item does not stand alone.
