English folk art magician animated cat figure

We share what we love, and we love this early 20th century hand crafted folk art animated moving figure of a freaky cat. Made from papier Mache/ card/ wood and metal. Encased in a bespoke pine box. This item was uncovered from a retired magicians’ collection of items. The cat has a detachable tail which hooks onto the back of the body. The legs are supported by elastic fabric string (to the rear) and when pulled at the front using string, the cats is animated in a quirky running motion. The mouth is also articulated but the spring / elastic is missing from the inside of the month. The lower jaw still moves up and down freely but hand. With glass eyes and a brilliant posture this item is mounted onto a metal pole which is attached to a wooden base, that keeps it firmly in place. Quite simple a brilliant thing and one of a kind.
