Early 20th Century Steiff Growling Pull Along Bear

We are proud to offer a tattered yet rare survivor of the early 20th Century, in the form of a Steiff growling pull along toy bear. This item has been well loved, with historic structural repairs with all its original filling still present. Cast metal wheels that are firmly in place as is the frame and its growler that still functions when the rope on its back is pulled. Now more of a decorative object with a nostalgic look of days gone by.

Size in inches approx.:  H 19” x W 27” x D 10”

Period: Early 20th Century

Material: Hessian, fur, and metal

Origin: United Kingdom

Condition: Worn

Completely solid in structure and form, the bear is still firmly attached to its base, with worn and faded surface fur, hessian patched repairs and exposed areas at the feet of this object. The growler still works fine but low in pitch we believe. Rust in metal areas.

It is exceedingly difficult to photograph all the areas on this piece. Therefore, we strongly suggest reviewing all the photos provided as part of this advert and propose questions where sections / condition is unclear to avoid disappointment when purchasing.

Period:

1920
